The Story Behind Sacred Hands Coffee

In the rolling hills of Western Kenya, where morning mist clings to coffee plants and the soil tells stories of generations past, Sacred Hands Coffee was born from a simple yet powerful vision: to transform how the world sees and values Kenyan coffee beyond the traditional Mt. Kenya regions.

Founder Hansel Iravonga grew up watching smallholder farmers struggle to get fair prices for their exceptional coffee. Despite the region's high elevation, fertile volcanic soils, and unique coffee varieties, Western Kenya remained overshadowed by more established coffee-producing areas. This untapped potential became the foundation for what would become Sacred Hands Coffee Project.

"I realized that the missing link wasn't quality our farmers were already growing incredible coffee," explains Iravonga. "What was missing was organization, knowledge sharing, and direct market access. Sacred Hands Coffee was created to bridge these gaps."

From the beginning, the project took a holistic approach. Rather than simply buying coffee, Sacred Hands invested in year-round farmer education through the Farmer Field School program, implemented quality-based pricing with premiums, and created direct relationships between farmers and international roasters.

Today, Sacred Hands Coffee continues to grow, driven by the same principle that started it all: exceptional coffee is the result of exceptional relationships. Every cup tells the story of dedicated farmers, innovative processing, and a commitment to sustainable practices that benefit both people and the environment.
